How to Choose the Best Cannabis Edible

Posted: August 7th, 2020

Full Spectrum Sativa, Indica, or CBD? Here’s What to Look For, and Expect From, a Cannabis Edible

When it comes to cannabis edibles these days there are so many choices. From sativa chocolates, to CBD gummies there’s never been a larger variety of consumable cannabis products on the market. Gone are the days of whipping up a batch of your own special brownies and trying to estimate the THC content, only to realize hours later that you were way off the mark. Today cannabis edibles are sold prepackaged and marked according to dosage so you can be sure you’re getting the amount of THC that’s on the label and they can even be delivered right to your doorstep. But, cannabis edibles are about more than THC content and convenience.

Find a Brand and Strain You Can Trust

Speaking from experience we’ve found that different types of cannabis edibles noticeably vary in their effects. While a 5mg edible from one brand may leave us relaxed and functional, another one might have us struggling to follow a conversation. Cannabis strains vary in their cerebral and cognitive effects. While the best sativa edibles leave us upbeat and creative, indica edibles have us ready to curl up with a good book or a Netflix series before bed. However, each strain of cannabis has its own properties as well that are more complex than sativa versus indica.

Strain-Specific Edibles

Garden Society offers three different artisan chocolate edibles so you can select your strain and desired result.

Ready to unwind? Our full spectrum Milk Chocolate with Chai chocolates are high in CBD and low in THC so they’ll help you relax while still keeping you fully functional. With a 10:1 CBD to THC ratio, the relaxing properties of CBD are unlocked by the microdose of THC while the CBD counteracts the “high” associated with THC.

The best edible for a good night’s sleep are our Milk Chocolates with Sea Salt. With 10mg of indica dominant THC and 1 mg of CBD each edible is crafted to help you relax after a stressful day, and to get a good night’s rest.

If it’s a brighter day you’re after our Spiced Dark Chocolate edibles are infused with the best sativa hybrid cannabis to brighten your mood and lift your spirits. They can easily be cut in half or quarters if you prefer or tolerate a 2.5-5 mg microdose.

“Full Spectrum” Cannabis is KEY

While some edibles are made for maximum THC potency, our premium Mendocino cannabis strains are selected specifically for you and artfully infused into every edible. Each product we produce is made from full spectrum cannabis, which means that the whole plant goes into every batch. Why’s this important? Full spectrum, or whole plant cannabis edibles contain a variety of cannabinoids that are designed to work together, including THC, THCa, CBD, CBDa, CBG, and CBN, as well as terpenes and other compounds such as flavonoids, proteins, phenols, sterols, and esters. These natural compounds help balance each other and create the most natural cannabis edible.

Remember, Effects Vary

Whether you’re enjoying an edible for the first time, or incorporate them into your nightly routine, we want your cannabis experience to be enjoyable. Remember that when you consume an edible your body processes cannabis differently than when you smoke a pre-roll.

While both full spectrum edibles and flower contain the same cannabinoid compounds your body absorbs edibles through your digestive system, which means that there are more variables. Edibles take longer to take effect than smoking cannabis and they’re effects last much longer.

How long does a cannabis edible last? That depends. For example, consuming an edible after a large meal could mean that you won’t feel the effects for up to two hours. And, while the full experience of edibles is typically reached in three hours, it’s possible to feel the effects for six to eight hours.

Our advice? Start small and take it slow, especially if it’s your first time. You can always take another edible but only time will mitigate the effects.
